About Saint Mary's Priory Church

Saint Mary's Priory Church is an active Church of England parish church in Tutbury, within the Burton-on-Trent area of Staffordshire. It is protected as a Grade I listed building and has served both the local parish and, historically, the monks associated with Tutbury Priory.

Its earliest surviving fabric is the west front, dating to about 1160–1170, while much of the nave was reconstructed during the 13th century. Following the Reformation, the eastern section used by the monastic community was removed together with the priory buildings. A south tower was probably added in the 16th century, and Joseph B. H. Bennett designed the north aisle in 1820–1822. George Edmund Street renewed the chancel and sanctuary in 1866. The tower holds eight bells, including four cast in 1699, while the organ was made by William Hill & Son in 1860 and subsequently rebuilt.
