About All Saints Parish Church
All Saints Parish Church is an active Church of England parish church in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. It is protected as a Grade I listed building, reflecting the architectural and historic importance of its surviving medieval fabric.
Christian worship on the site can be traced to at least 822, when the earliest church was probably a timber structure with a reed-thatched roof. A Norman stone building later replaced it, and several doorways and sections of masonry survive from that period. The chancel was added in the thirteenth century, followed by the present nave, south aisle and tower in the fourteenth. Sixteenth-century work included clerestory windows and carved timber roofs. Victorian changes brought chancel restoration, stained glass by Holiday and Charles Eamer Kempe, a rebuilt porch, and a new north aisle designed by Basil Champneys. Other features include medieval chests, a fifteenth-century font, seventeenth-century woodwork, historic monuments, a Brindley & Foster organ and eight bells recast in 1922.
