About St Wilfrid's Church, Scrooby

St Wilfrid's Church, Scrooby is an active Anglican parish church serving Scrooby, within the Doncaster area of South Yorkshire. The Grade II listed building belongs to the Church of England and forms part of the united benefice covering Blyth, Scrooby and Ranskill. Worship follows the central Anglican tradition, with Sunday morning services twice monthly and a prayer gathering once a month. The congregation is drawn mainly from the village.

Originating in the fifteenth century, the church was repaired and renewed in 1864 after an extended period of neglect. Its most recognisable feature is the spire, which has an eight-sided form. Inside is an instrument built in 1871 by the organ makers Gray and Davison. William Brewster, who later became a prominent Pilgrim leader, attended worship here. Scrooby sheltered a Puritan Separatist congregation from 1606 to 1608; its members later departed for the Netherlands, before crossing to America on the Mayflower in 1620.
