About Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity is a Church of England church serving Walton, near Street in Somerset. It is a Grade II listed place of worship and belongs to the united benefice covering Street, Walton and Compton Dundon. Walton became a separate parish in 1886 before rejoining Street in 1978.
A church was recorded here in 1168 under the ownership of Glastonbury Abbey. The present building largely dates from 1865–66, when Frederick Merrick rebuilt it to designs by the Revd J. F. Turner. Constructed from local Blue Lias with Box stone detailing, it comprises a nave of three bays, north aisle, chancel, vestry, south porch and tower. The tower, retained from work completed in 1836, gained its slate-covered timber spire and clock in 1886. Inside are oak furnishings, a Bath stone pulpit, memorial glass and a medieval tomb slab. Its five bells include examples dating from 1637, 1687 and 1730.
