About Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity is a Church of England parish church in Street, Somerset. Dating chiefly from the fourteenth century, it is protected at Grade I, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural importance. The parish belongs to the Street and Walton benefice in Glastonbury deanery.
The oldest surviving part is the chancel, constructed around 1270 and retaining medieval window tracery and a carved sedilia. The nave and tower were added during the fifteenth century. Eight bells hang in the tower, including four cast in 1777. A north aisle was built in the early nineteenth century, followed by Benjamin Ferrey’s refurbishment of the interior in 1843; an organ was already present by then. Further work from 2000 to 2004 removed the pews and introduced updated lighting and heating beneath the floor. Originally dedicated to Gildas, the church was under the patronage of Glastonbury Abbey until the monasteries were dissolved.
