About St George

St George is an Anglican parish church on Church Road in Easton in Gordano, within Bristol, Somerset. It is dedicated to Saint George and has Grade II* protection. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Bath and Wells and forms part of a shared benefice with Pill and Portbury.

Christian worship is documented on the site from 1230, while written records survive from 1239 and parish registers begin in 1559. The medieval building underwent reconstruction in the 1300s and 1400s. Its plan comprises a clerestoried nave, aisles on each side, a chancel and a vestry. A buttressed west tower of three stages survives from the 14th century. In 1872, architect Ewan Christian reconstructed every part apart from this tower. The tower received conservation treatment in 2011, and financial support for repairs to the roof was secured in 2015.
