About St. Andrew's

St Andrew’s is a Church of England parish church in Congresbury, Somerset, near Bristol. Dating from the medieval period, it remains part of the local benefice alongside Puxton and Hewish St Ann. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

The present building was consecrated by Jocelin, Bishop of Wells, in 1215. It was substantially altered during the 15th century in the Perpendicular Gothic style, with later restoration campaigns in 1825, 1856 and between 1950 and 1952. Inside, carved stone corbels on the nave pillars carry a timber roof decorated with bosses. Other notable features include a Norman font, an organ in the chancel rebuilt in 1967, and the Merle Chapel, once dedicated to St Congar. The tower has a spire reaching 37 metres and houses eight bells, the earliest cast by George Purdue in 1606.
