The Church of St Nicholas and the Blessed Virgin Mary is an Anglican parish church in Stowey, Somerset, in the Bristol area. Standing on The Street beside Stowey House, it remains a place of Church of England worship and holds Grade II listed status. A service is held on Saturdays at 7.00 pm.
The present stone building originated in the thirteenth century, with the chancel forming its earliest surviving section. The nave followed during the fourteenth century, while the buttressed three-storey tower dates from that century or the early fifteenth. Local red sandstone is used throughout, with bands of lias in the nave. Later work included seventeenth-century alterations and a Victorian restoration. Inside are a fourteenth-century font, eighteenth-century memorials, an organ fitted in the 1930s, and early twentieth-century paintings by Henry Strachey. Six bells hang in the tower, including five cast by Somerset’s Bilbie family and another added in 1991.
