About St Andrew's Church
St Andrew's Church is a Church of England place of worship on Steart Drove, Bridgwater, Somerset. It belongs to the Quantock Gate Parishes, while St Mary’s at Stockland Bristol is the principal parish church. Services take place at St Andrew’s three or four times annually, and the building is available each day for visitors and private prayer.
Built in 1882 for £700, the church was funded by the Revd Henry A. Daniel to serve Steart’s isolated community of fishermen and their families. Bristol architects Foster and Wood prepared the design, and Bridgwater builders Joseph Willis and Son carried out the work. The Early English-style building is constructed from red brick and roofed with Staffordshire tiles. Its interior comprises a nave, vestry and south porch, with pitch-pine seating and cathedral-glass windows. Lightning destroyed the bell turret and seriously damaged the roof in 1986; the church was later restored without replacement of the turret.
