About Church of St Michael, Enmore

The Church of St Michael, Enmore is an Anglican parish church near Bridgwater in Somerset. It serves within a united benefice alongside six neighbouring parishes and is administered through the Archdeaconry of Taunton. Recognised for its special architectural and historic interest, the church has Grade II* protection.

Most of the present structure was erected in the fifteenth century, though surviving Norman elements include the elaborately sculpted southern entrance from roughly 1185. The layout comprises a nave and chancel of two bays each, with three bays forming the northern aisle. Benjamin Ferrey directed substantial repairs in 1873. Diagonal supports strengthen the three-level western tower, which has a stair turret and six bells; William Purdue cast the earliest in 1647. Among the furnishings are an eight-sided font from the thirteenth century and a Jacobean preaching stand. Two Malet family helmets, thought to be from about 1620, were brought from Enmore Castle after demolition work there in 1833.
