About St Winifred's Church

St Winifred’s Church is a Church of England church in Kingston on Soar, within the Nottingham area of Nottinghamshire. Built in 1540, it is now designated at Grade I for its special historic and architectural importance. It also forms part of the 453 Churches, a local association comprising five churches near the A453.

Substantial alterations were undertaken in 1900. During this work, a new nave, aisle and tower were constructed, and the chancel with its adjoining aisle was renovated. The project was commissioned by Lord Belper to commemorate his son, William Strutt. A two-manual pipe organ, built by Wilkinson of Kendal, arrived in 1936 from Holy Trinity at Mardale Green, which was removed during development of the Haweswater Reservoir. The church also has a ring of six bells; the largest, the tenor, weighs nine and three-quarter hundredweight.
