About St Wilfrid's
St Wilfrid’s is a Church of England parish church in Calverton, in the Nottingham area of Nottinghamshire. It remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Much of the church dates from the 14th century, possibly incorporating stonework from an earlier structure. The tower and nave were reconstructed between 1760 and 1763, followed by the rebuilding of the chancel in 1835 and a full restoration in 1881. An organ chamber was added in 1888, with a further annexe completed in 1962. The broad, aisleless nave has an unusually offset chancel arch. Medieval carved stones survive in the tower, including panels thought to show seasonal occupations. Another small carving depicts a bearded bishop, perhaps St Wilfrid, beside a second figure. The organ was made by Brindley & Foster in 1880.
