About St Thomas
St Thomas is a Church of England parish church serving Aslockton in Nottinghamshire, in the Nottingham locality. It remains part of the Cranmer Group of six neighbouring parishes and is protected at Grade II for its architectural and historical significance.
The church dates from 1890–92 and was funded by Sophia E. Hall as a memorial to her son, the Revd Thomas K. Hall. He had served as vicar of Whatton before losing his life in the wreck of RMS Quetta off Queensland in February 1890. Architectural records differ over whether Sir Reginald Blomfield or Sir Arthur Blomfield designed the building. A 2002 window by Michael Stokes depicts the Quetta disaster, while his east window commemorates Cranmer and portrays Christ showing his wounds to Thomas. One bell hangs in a small western bellcote.
