About St Mary's Parish Church
St Mary's Parish Church is a Church of England parish church serving Lowdham in Nottinghamshire, in the Nottingham area. Dating from the medieval period, it remains a parish church and has Grade I listed status. It shares its parish arrangements with churches at Caythorpe and Gunthorpe.
The church has its origins in the thirteenth century, with 1250 given as its construction date. Scott oversaw restoration work in 1860, followed by repairs to the spire in 1883 and work on the chancel in 1890. Among the monuments is a 1318 memorial to Sir John de Lowdham, represented by a recumbent, cross-legged figure wearing chain mail. Other memorials commemorate Charles Broughton and Petri Broughton, the latter dated 1695. The pipe organ, made by Charles Lloyd, has two manuals and twelve stops; Cousins of Lincoln rebuilt it in 1963.
