About St Mary and All Saints
St Mary and All Saints serves Bingham, within Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire, as an active Church of England parish church. Founded in 1225, it has medieval origins and belongs to the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. Its Grade I designation recognises the building’s exceptional importance for both its architecture and history.
George Gilbert Scott directed restoration work during 1845 and 1846, followed by additional alterations under W. D. Caroe in 1912. Frank Miles designed the lychgate, which was erected in 1881. Bryceson and Son of London made the organ installed in 1859. The tower houses eight bells, two having been added to the original six in 1922. An 1871 clock by Nottingham makers G. & F. Cope succeeded one damaged when lightning hit the tower in 1775. Its four dials measured seven feet across, while its mechanism marked each hour and played the Cambridge quarter sequence.
