About St Leodegarius Church, Basford
St Leodegarius Church, Basford serves as a Church of England parish church in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It is protected at Grade II*, recognising its particular architectural and historic importance. The church is also one of only four English churches dedicated to St Leodegarius.
Its oldest surviving work is the chancel, dating to the 1180s, while the southern arcade was added around 1250. The south aisle and porch followed in about 1340. Arthur Wilson undertook extensive rebuilding and restoration in 1858 and 1859, with Thomas Allom carrying out further work after the tower fell in 1859. Eight bells made by John Taylor and Company in 1921 commemorate Basford men who died during the First World War. The present organ, installed by J. W. Walker and Sons in 1977, replaced a 1902 instrument destroyed by arson three years earlier.
