About St Laurence
St Laurence is a Church of England parish church in Gonalston, Nottinghamshire, within the Nottingham area. It remains an active place of worship and has Grade II listed status. The church shares its parish with Holy Cross at Epperstone, St Swithun at Woodborough, and St Peter and St Paul at Oxton.
The building has medieval origins dating to the fourteenth century. Thomas Chambers Hine substantially rebuilt it in 1843. In the north aisle are three damaged recumbent monuments from the early fourteenth century, commemorating members of the Heriz family. Two portray knights with crossed legs, while the third depicts Lady Mathilda wearing a wimple. Her head rests beneath a crocketed ogee arch, with carved decoration combining formal leaves and more natural foliage.
