St John the Evangelist is a Church of England parish church on Skegby Road, serving Kirkby Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire. It remains the parish church for the local Anglican community and was established in connection with St Wilfrid’s Church in nearby Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
An earlier church was erected in 1860 as a dependent place of worship associated with St Wilfrid’s. The present church dates from 1906 and was designed by architect Louis Ambler. Its site was given by the Duke of Portland, while construction cost £10,000. Ambler’s scheme included a tower, but this part of the design was not carried out. The surviving building therefore represents the completed portion of the early twentieth-century plans.
