About St. John's

St. John's is a Church of England parish church in Carrington, Nottingham, on Mansfield Road. It is designated Grade II for its architectural and historical importance. The church remains a place of parish worship, with a Sunday service at 10:00 am.

Opened in 1843, the church was designed by William Surplice. Jackson & Heazell extended the building with a chancel between 1866 and 1877, while an aisle on the northern side followed in 1922. In 1942, stone from the dismantled spire of Holy Trinity in Trinity Square was reused for a new driveway and a churchyard wall. The organ, built by Roger Yates in 1936 for a private home in Radcliffe-on-Trent, was transferred and rebuilt here in 1949. Harry Gabb, then sub-organist at St Paul's Cathedral, played at its opening that February.
