About St John of Beverley
St John of Beverley is a Church of England parish church in Scarrington, Nottinghamshire, within the Nottingham area. The church is part of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and serves among the Cranmer Group of parishes. It is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Originating in the 13th century, the medieval church comprises a nave and chancel, with a tower and spire. Its southern aisle was demolished in 1802 and the former arcade was closed with brickwork. J. H. Hakewill oversaw extensive restoration between 1867 and 1869, including the construction of a replacement south aisle. A vestry, chancel arch and reredos were also introduced during the 19th century. The small font dates from the Restoration era, while another font bowl, later discovered and placed at the eastern end of the south aisle, may be medieval.
