About St. Edmund's Church
St. Edmund’s Church stands on Holme Lane at Holme Pierrepont, within Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It is an Anglican parish church and now belongs to the joint parish shared with All Hallows in Lady Bay. Its Grade I designation reflects its exceptional significance for both architecture and history.
Originating around 1250, the medieval structure underwent extensive reconstruction in 1666 at the direction of Henry Pierrepont, Marquess of Dorchester. Its history is closely connected to Holme Pierrepont Hall. Architect Thomas Chambers Hine extended the building with a new chancel in 1878, while the eastern stained-glass window was produced by the Powell firm in 1913. Charles Lloyd made the organ, which earned the highest award at a Birmingham trade exhibition held in 1865. Memorials include several members of the Pierrepont family, satirist and translator John Oldham, and former MP Evelyn Pierrepont.
