St Cyprian’s Church is an active Church of England parish in Nottingham. Its present ministry covers the greater part of Carlton Hill and Bakersfield, while only a limited corner of Sneinton remains within the parish. The congregation is part of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, maintains a Traditional Catholic character and comes under the Bishop of Beverley’s pastoral oversight. Sung Mass is celebrated each Sunday at 9.30am.
C. E. Howitt designed the present church, with building commencing during 1934. Henry Mosley, then Bishop of Southwell, consecrated it on 15 May the following year. Its oldest fitting is a font thought to date from the thirteenth or fourteenth century. Found between Shelford and Gedling, it had previously served as a trough for horses and may once have stood in Saxondale chapel. An E. Wragg & Son organ was added when the church opened in 1935, reusing pipework formerly housed at St James’ Church, Standard Hill.
