About St Christopher's Church
St Christopher's Church stands on Colwick Road in Sneinton, Nottingham. It belongs to the Church of England and occupies a site used for Christian worship since the early twentieth century. The present church dates from 1910 and replaced earlier buildings connected with the same congregation.
Before construction began, a metal mission building and its schoolroom were relocated across the site using jacks, supporting beams and rollers. The new church was designed in the Decorated Gothic tradition, with an aisle on each side and transepts facing north and south. Edwyn Hoskyns, then Bishop of Southwell, dedicated it on 1 December 1910. Bombing during May 1941 caused severe destruction, leaving the outer walls standing. Repairs were finished in 1952, followed by further rebuilding in 1953. A two-keyboard pipe organ by Cousans of Lincoln was installed as part of that work.
