About St Barnabas Lenton Abbey

St Barnabas Lenton Abbey is a Church of England parish church on Derby Road in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It was established to serve Lenton Abbey and gained independent parish status on 25 July 1955. Responsibility for the parish has generally been shared with clergy from neighbouring churches and is currently held by the vicar of Lenton.

Built in 1938 for residents of the newly developed Lenton Abbey estate, the church was designed by Nottingham architect Thomas Cecil Howitt. Coins, architectural drawings and contemporary local newspapers were sealed in a box beneath the foundation stone when work began. Henry Mosley, then Bishop of Southwell, consecrated the building on 25 July 1938. It initially served as a chapel connected with Holy Trinity Church in Lenton. Its two-manual pipe organ was also made in 1938, by William Hill & Son and Norman & Beard.
