About Saint Mary's
Saint Mary’s is a Church of England parish church in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Dating from the thirteenth century, it remains an active place of worship and shares its parish with St Wilfrid’s in Screveton. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The tower underwent restoration in 1911. A clock made around 1678 by Richard Roe was replaced in 1888 to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. Its successor, constructed by Nottingham makers G. and F. Cope, displayed the time on two dials and sounded each hour on a substantial bell. The church also contains a two-manual organ with pedals and ten stops, made by Wordsworth and Maskell around 1900. Memorials commemorate members of the Henson and Blagg families, Robert Thoroton and others. Three eighteenth-century headstones in the churchyard, associated with the Wollerton family and the carver James Sparrow, are separately listed at Grade II.
