About Priory Church of St Anthony
The Priory Church of St Anthony is a Church of England parish church in Lenton, Nottingham. Also known locally as the Priory, it is a Grade II listed building and belongs to the Lenton benefice together with Holy Trinity Church.
Parts of the building may survive from the medieval Hospital of St Anthony, associated with Lenton Priory. The chancel walls in particular are believed to have 12th-century origins. Formerly dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the church served Lenton until a replacement was built in 1842 and inherited that dedication. The older building then remained partly demolished for about four decades. Restoration began in 1883, with work undertaken by Evans and Jolley, and the church reopened on 4 December 1884 under its dedication to St Anthony. Its pipe organ was made by Ernest Wragg and Son and installed in 1924.
