About St Peter and St Paul
St Peter and St Paul is a former Anglican church in Preston Deanery, Northampton, Northamptonshire. This Grade II* listed Church of England building is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. Although no longer used for weekly worship, it continues to accommodate occasional services, including celebrations at Pentecost and Christmas for the Living Brook Benefice.
The church dates from the 12th century, with its nave walls, tower and part of the chancel surviving from that period. Built from limestone rubble with ironstone detailing and a slate roof, it comprises a nave, chancel and three-stage western tower with a battlemented parapet. The chancel was enlarged during the 13th century. Following a period of neglect and partial demolition after the Reformation, extensive repairs took place around 1622, with further work in 1808, 1854, 1901 and 1976. Inside, the Norman chancel arch has carved geometric, bird and snake designs. Other features include a font, memorials and a bell made in 1710.
