About St Michael and All Angels Church
St Michael and All Angels Church stands on Church Lane in Winwick, Northamptonshire, in the Northampton area. It serves as the local Church of England parish church and has Grade II* protection. Winwick shares a benefice with the parishes of Long Buckby, Watford and West Haddon, while keeping its own church building.
A priest was present in Winwick by 1086, though the surviving record does not confirm that a church structure existed then. The principal fabric was constructed across the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, following the recorded foundation date of 1201. Its ground plan is cross-shaped, with a tower positioned at the west end. In 1853, E. F. Law designed the replacement chancel. The parish’s register collection begins in 1567, and its earlier volumes are preserved by the county record office.
