About St Giles' Church, Northampton
St Giles’ Church, Northampton is an active Church of England parish church on St Giles Terrace, within the Diocese of Peterborough. Dating from around 1150, it is recognised as a Grade I listed building.
Parts of the building probably survive from the 12th century, including the crossing tower, west doorway and chancel. After the tower collapsed, its upper sections were reconstructed in 1616, while the summit was renewed in 1914. A substantial Victorian restoration was undertaken by Edmund Francis Law between 1853 and 1855, adding a second northern aisle and rebuilding the western end with porches; further work to the chancel followed in 1876. Notable features include a Jacobean pulpit, fragments of 13th-century lancets and an 1878 east window by Clayton and Bell. Memorials include a 15th-century alabaster table tomb and several wall monuments dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.
