About Saint John the Baptist
Saint John the Baptist is the Church of England parish church for Boughton, in Northampton, Northamptonshire. It occupies a site beside Church Street and remains in use as the parish’s place of worship. The church has Grade II listed status. Boughton and Pitsford form a combined benefice, while each community continues to maintain its own church.
The building began as a chantry serving Boughton Hall and, prior to the Reformation, bore a dedication to St Thomas the Martyr. Its western tower dates to approximately 1400. Most other parts were shaped through successive works during the nineteenth century. The plan includes the main worship space, a chancel and the tower. Surviving parish records begin in 1549, and the earlier volumes are preserved at the county record office in Northamptonshire.
