About Saint Andrew, Old
Saint Andrew, Old is a Church of England parish church in Northamptonshire, with its address at Barnes Close. Dating largely from the medieval period, it remains the church for the parish of Old and forms part of a united benefice with Hannington, Scaldwell and Walgrave. The building is protected at Grade I.
Most of the church was constructed during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, using coursed lias stone with ashlar details and a slate covering. Its plan includes a chancel, a four-bay nave with clerestory, a south aisle, a northern porch and a tower at the western end. Fifteenth-century work included the chancel arch and probably the enlarged aisle, porch and clerestory. A Latin memorial in the chancel records Alexander Ibbs, a parish rector who died in 1606. Extensive restoration in 1874 and 1875 added a vestry and organ chamber, renewed roofs and altered several windows.
