The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a functioning Church of England church on Church Lane in Northampton. Distinguished by its circular Norman form, it belongs to a group of just four medieval English churches of this type that continue to serve worshipping communities. The building is protected at Grade I for its exceptional historical and architectural significance.
The earliest structure dates from about 1100 and is generally attributed to Simon de Senlis, Earl of Northampton, following his return from the First Crusade. Its design probably reflected the sacred building he encountered in Jerusalem. The original rotunda had eight supporting piers, a surrounding passage and an eastern chancel. Three windows from the Norman period remain. Northern aisles followed around 1180 and 1275, while the fifteenth century brought a southern aisle, raised clerestory and west tower. Sir George Gilbert Scott oversaw extensive Victorian restoration, and John Oldrid Scott created the chancel screen in 1880.
