About All Saints' Church

All Saints' Church is an active Church of England parish church on Church Street in Northampton, Northamptonshire. Recognised for its exceptional historic and architectural importance, it has been protected at Grade I since 1954. Much of its early medieval structure survives.

A religious community existed at Brixworth by the seventh century, although the current building was probably begun during the late 700s or early 800s. Designed on a basilican layout, it was constructed with masonry supports rather than columns and incorporates reused Roman bricks and stone, possibly brought from Leicester and Towcester. Early fabric includes the raised-windowed nave, sealed arcades and remains of a curved eastern apse with a subterranean passage. A western porch became a tower in the tenth century, with further height and the broach spire added during the 1300s. A southern aisle and chapel were created in the thirteenth century. Victorian work undertaken in 1865–66 uncovered older masonry and revealed the passage around the former apse. Six bells hang in the tower.
