About St Helen's
St Helen’s is an active Anglican parish church in Sibbertoft, in the Market Harborough area of Northamptonshire. It occupies a site along Church Street and has Grade II* protection. The parish shares a benefice with Welford and Marston Trussell, although all three communities have separate places of worship.
A priest lived in Sibbertoft in 1086, indicating that Christian worship was established locally by then. Most of the surviving fabric was constructed during the 1200s and 1300s, using cobbles and local lias stone, with slate covering the roofs. Its plan includes aisles on both sides of the nave, a chancel and a tower at the western end. Historic elements include medieval arches and a surviving carved piece from the former rood screen. Edward Browning oversaw extensive work in 1862 and 1863, when the porch and southern aisle were built. Stained glass, ornamental floor tiles, a marble-columned font and pulpit, and the memorial tablet to Ambrose Saunders are among the notable details.
