About Malton Methodist Church
Malton Methodist Church is a historic place of worship in Malton, North Yorkshire, with Grade II* listed status. The building is intended to continue hosting Sunday services alongside community uses, including a café and food bank, while its principal hall is planned as a concert space seating 600 people.
John Wesley visited Malton to preach during the 1770s, and the Wesleyan Methodists erected the church in Saville Street in 1811. Its exterior combines mottled pink and cream brickwork with stone and orange-red brick detailing, set above a stone base and beneath a hipped roof of pantiles. The symmetrical two-storey frontage has five bays, with the central three projecting below a pediment and dated scroll. Tuscan columns frame the main entrance, while fanlights and round-arched windows feature decorative tracery. After roof defects were identified in 2015, unsuccessful sale attempts were followed by a £2 million restoration fundraising effort.
