About All Saints' Church, Cawood
All Saints’ Church, Cawood is the Church of England parish church for Cawood in North Yorkshire. Dating from the 12th century, it is recognised as a Grade I listed building, a designation granted in 1966.
The earliest surviving fabric is the western wall, built during the middle or later decades of the 1100s. A chancel and southern aisle followed in the 13th century, with further chapels and an aisle added to the north during the 14th century. Constructed from Magnesian limestone beneath a tiled roof, the church has a four-bay nave, a two-bay chancel and a three-stage tower in the unusual south-west position. George Gilbert Scott Jr restored the building in the 1880s and renewed much of its glazing. Interior features include a life-sized memorial figure commemorating George Montaigne, made around 1623, and three surviving pieces of medieval grave slabs.
