About St Saviour's Church, Norwich
St Saviour’s Church, Norwich is a small former Church of England parish church in central Norwich, Norfolk. Dedicated to Jesus as the Saviour, it is one of only two Norfolk churches known to share this dedication. The building is protected at Grade I and has served several community purposes since becoming redundant. In 2026, the Church of Pentecost’s UK branch was chosen as its tenant.
Although a church may have occupied the site before 1000, the earliest written record dates from the late 12th century. The present structure, traditionally dated to 1350, was chiefly developed across the 14th and 15th centuries. Flint walls are complemented by brick and stone details, while the compact plan includes a nave, chancel and low western tower. The south porch was reconstructed in 1723. Extensive restoration in 1852–53 reduced the tower’s height, and the chancel was repaired in 1923. Later alterations uncovered an elaborate roof with scissor bracing.
