About St Clement's Church, Norwich
St Clement’s Church, Norwich stands near Fye Bridge, between Colegate and Fyebridge Street in Norwich, Norfolk. Dedicated to Clement of Rome, it is one of two known Norwich churches to have borne that dedication, although the other has been lost. The Grade I listed church ceased serving as a parish church during the 1960s. It later provided space for interfaith prayer and meditation, followed by a Romanian Orthodox congregation until 2015.
The site may have Anglo-Saxon origins, possibly dating to the early eleventh century, while the present building dates from about 1450. Flint walls incorporate brick and stone details beneath a slate-covered roof. Inside is a broad nave without aisles and a chancel lacking side chapels. At the western end, the tower carries a clock and is finished with a battlemented parapet. The church became an important centre of Ritualist worship in Norwich during the late nineteenth century and suffered flood damage in 1912.
