Saint Margaret de Westwick stands on Saint Margarets Street in Norwich, Norfolk. This former Church of England parish church is no longer used for regular worship and is protected as a Grade I listed building. Following a period as a basic gym and later an affordable venue for exhibitions, it became St Margaret’s Gallery.
The medieval church dates from around 1350. After remaining shut for five or six years, it underwent restoration and reopened in 1868. Wartime bombing destroyed much of its Victorian stained glass, and David King created a new east window depicting the Ascension during the 1960s. The church closed again in 1975. A later programme supported by Historic England addressed the roof, stonework and drainage, along with structural problems affecting the south transept and the eastern chancel walls.
