About Saint Andrew's Church

Saint Andrew's Church is a Church of England place of worship on Saint Andrews Street in Norwich, Norfolk. Dedicated to Andrew the Apostle, it is the city’s sole church with that dedication. This medieval building is protected at Grade I and holds a Sunday service at 10:00 am.

A church occupied the site by 1386, while the present structure largely reflects rebuilding carried out around the turn of the sixteenth century. Its western tower was begun in 1478 and finished around 1496, followed by completion of the nave and chancel in 1506. Designed in the late Perpendicular Gothic tradition, the flint and freestone building includes two aisles, two porches and a distinctive timber roof supported by tie beams. Surviving details include medieval stained-glass fragments, carved shields and numerous memorials. Extensive work in 1867 introduced seating, a pulpit and a stone screen, while the organ case dates from 1905.
