About St Mary's Church
St Mary’s Church is a Church of England parish church in Undy, near Newport in Monmouthshire, Wales. Standing on Church Road, it belongs to the Rectorial Benefice of Magor within the Netherwent deanery. The church has held Grade II listed status since 1955.
Its origins lie around the 12th century. The pointed chancel dates from the 13th century and was subsequently lengthened. John Prichard directed an extensive restoration in 1880, when the north window of the nave was added. Other windows survive from much earlier periods. During the same work, a modest central tower was taken down and a larger bell turret installed in its place. The porch bears carved names of the churchwardens serving in 1790. A further restoration was completed in 2001.
