About St Peter's Church
St Peter’s Church is an active parish church in Llanwenarth, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The Grade II* listed building serves a Church of England congregation and received its protected status in 1956.
Tradition places the church’s foundation in the sixth or seventh century, while the present structure originated in the early 1300s. Built from Old Red Sandstone, it is a substantial example of Decorated Gothic architecture. Its tower bears the date 1631, although parts may have survived from the later medieval period. John Prichard remodelled the building in 1877 and designed most of its furnishings. Inside are a simple Norman tub font and a monument from the late eighteenth century, made by Walker of Bristol and located in the nave.
