About St. Martin's Church
St. Martin’s Church stands on Church Road in Worle, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. It is a Church of England parish church with an ecumenical ministry that also includes Methodist clergy. The church forms part of the Worle parish and benefice and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Founded in 1125, the church has Norman beginnings but was substantially rebuilt across the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. John Norton oversaw extensive enlargement and restoration in 1870, costing £1,700, and the building reopened that November. Constructed in stone beneath tiled roofs, it includes a nave of four bays, a chancel and an aisle to the north. Its three-level western tower has diagonal supporting buttresses. Notable fittings include misericords transferred from Woodspring Priory after the monasteries were dissolved, and an organ made in Frankfurt in 1662. Installed here during the 1860s, the organ was rebuilt in 1957. A simply Gothic west gallery was added in 1988–89.
