About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England church in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Recognised for its special architectural and historical interest, it is protected at Grade II*.
Originating in the thirteenth century, the church gained its windows around two centuries later and underwent restoration during the nineteenth century. Its plan incorporates a nave and chancel, alongside a clerestory, vestry, northern porch and tower. A notably uncommon saddleback form crowns the roof. Elizabeth Cecil is buried in the chancel; she was Hugh Alington’s wife and a sibling of William Cecil, the first Baron Burghley. The church also remembers 34 Polish paratroopers and aircrew who died in a collision between two C47 aircraft near RAF Spanhoe on 8 July 1944. In 2023, the congregation repatriated to Doingt in France a crucifix retrieved from the community’s ruined church following fighting on the Somme.
