About St Peter

St Peter is a redundant Church of England church on Main Road at Kingerby, near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. Standing apart from the former village and facing Kingerby Hall, it is a Grade I listed building now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust.

Its oldest masonry belongs to the opening decades of the eleventh century, broadly consistent with a date around 1050. Later work took place from the twelfth to fourteenth centuries and again in the early seventeenth century, followed by modest nineteenth-century repairs. Built mainly from ironstone rubble beneath pantile roofs, the church has a nave, south aisle and porch, chancel, clerestory and tapering three-stage western tower. Inside are a surviving Anglo-Saxon circular opening, medieval stained glass, a fifteenth-century font and prayer desk, and a wooden alms box dated 1639. Medieval knightly monuments, probably commemorating the Disney family, include carved effigies and a coffin-shaped memorial slab.
