About St Michael's Church, Buslingthorpe
St Michael’s Church, Buslingthorpe, is a former Anglican place of worship near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. Now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, it became redundant in 1984. The church has Grade II* listed status and occupies a secluded site beside a farm with surviving sections of moat, close to the A46.
Originating in the 13th century, with further work undertaken during the 14th, the church was restored in 1835 by Edward James Willson. He reconstructed most of it in yellow brick while retaining the earlier limestone tower. The compact layout comprises nave, chancel and two-stage western tower, topped by a pyramidal roof. Medieval details include remnants of 14th-century coloured glass and two Buslingthorpe family memorials. One depicts an armoured knight above a carved chest; the other incorporates an early military brass showing a knight holding a heart. Most remaining furnishings are Victorian, although the octagonal font bowl was reused from an earlier period.
