About St Helen's

St Helen’s is a small former Anglican church at Little Cawthorpe, near Louth in Lincolnshire. Now redundant, it has been protected at Grade II and is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The building accommodated around 60 worshippers.

Completed in 1860 to designs by Robert J. Withers, the church is built mainly of red brick, patterned with darker fired brick and complemented by stone and marble details. Its simple arrangement includes a nave, chancel, south porch and northern vestry. A western bellcote carries a slender spirelet and weathercock, while wrought-iron ornaments mark the roof. Inside, marble shafts and decorative capitals frame the chancel arch, which is embellished with red diamond tiles. Other features include vivid stained glass, a tiled reredos, and a nineteenth-century font, pulpit and altar rail. A memorial beneath the west window also bears the date 1860.
