About St Botolph's Church, Skidbrooke
St Botolph’s Church, Skidbrooke is a former Anglican church in the Lincolnshire marshes, around seven miles north-east of Louth. Standing west of the A1031 in a secluded setting, it is a Grade I listed building and is now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The church ceased regular parish use in November 1973.
Originating in the early thirteenth century, the building was extended and altered during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, with further work in 1854, 1871 and the twentieth century. It is built of limestone and brick, partly rendered, beneath slate roofs. Its layout includes an aisled nave, clerestory, chancel, south porch and battlemented western tower with gargoyles and corner pinnacles. Inside are early thirteenth-century four-bay arcades and an octagonal font, alongside medieval fittings including an aumbry, piscina and damaged sedilia. Memorial stones include that of a vicar who died in 1413.
