About St Peter in Eastgate
St Peter in Eastgate is an active Church of England parish church in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. The present building is Grade II listed. Its congregation supports toddlers, children, young people, students and young adults, as well as home groups. A congregation established on the Carlton Estate in 2006 later became the separate parish of St Peter in Carlton, while retaining close ties with the church.
A church has stood on the site since the eleventh century. The earliest building suffered damage during the 1643 siege of Lincoln and was replaced between 1776 and 1781. Greater capacity was later needed, leading to the construction of the present church in 1870 to designs by Arthur Blomfield. George Frederick Bodley decorated the chancel in 1884, while Temple Lushington Moore designed the south aisle added in 1914. The organ originated in 1836 and has since been restored, enlarged and, most recently, repaired and upgraded in 2024.
