About St George's Church, Lincoln
St George’s Church, Lincoln was a medieval place of worship in the centre of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. The church has been demolished, and Lincoln Museum now occupies its former site. It was one of several medieval churches in central Lincoln that no longer survive, rather than an active parish church today.
The surviving information identifies its medieval origin but gives no details of its construction, architectural style, furnishings or later alterations. Its site lies within a city centre shaped around the route of Ermine Street, which follows High Street before continuing through The Strait, Steep Hill and Bailgate. This route links Lincoln’s lower commercial districts with the historic Uphill area, where numerous Roman and medieval buildings remain, including the cathedral, castle and several ancient churches and houses.
